Building The Wildlight Vision
The Wildlight community in Yulee, Florida is a massive mixed use development aiming to rework the way we think of community itself–a delicate branding challenge beyond the regular scope of a construction project. We are proud that the UF Health and YMCA facility being developed by Scherer Construction is succeeding in tailoring this unique health and wellness project to their vision.
This 37,000 square foot facility is a huge undertaking that requires unique preparation and construction. Half of the space will be a UF Health Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Clinic, while the other half will be a fully functioning YMCA complete with an indoor track, open exercise areas, and plenty of outdoor space for classes. This is designed to align with Wildlight’s “Florida Lowcountry” model, where work and play come together with the natural world to create a diverse and fulfilling lifestyle.
Creating A Community
Wildlight is an up-and-coming development in a previously undeveloped area, and our team is excited for the opportunity to build a facility that will widely benefit the future of this new community. With a range of services from physical therapy to rehabilitation, the UF Health Clinic will keep residents healthy while the two-story YMCA will keep them active.
“Wellness is always at the center of our plans, in our hospitals and practices throughout Northeast Florida, so it only makes sense to include another outstanding organization dedicated to better health in the Wildlight collaboration,” Leon L. Haley Jr., CEO of UF Health Jacksonville and dean of the Jacksonville UF College of Medicine, told the Fernandina Observer.
Scherer Construction’s Role
Our team has been working closely with both UF Health and the YMCA to ensure the proper execution of their vision. We’re currently building roads that provide access to the development and will act as a bridge connecting residents to neighboring communities.
We’ve made substantial progress in the construction of the structure, as our carefully managed process is perfectly suited to the unique needs of this health facility. This project will play a key role in the live, work, and play environment being developed by Wildlight. Our diligence during the site phase of the project has allowed the project to stay on schedule even during the wettest months. Now steel is erected and we are rapidly closing the building in.
