The 3 Most Exciting Gainesville Commercial Construction Projects of 2019

With 2019 coming to a close, we’re reflecting on the growth that Gainesville has experienced over the last year. At Scherer Construction, we’re proud to continue to be a part of the evolution of the city where we got our start, back in 1984.

Check out three of the most exciting commercial construction projects that we completed in Gainesville this year.

San Felasco Tech City

Tech City is Alachua’s new live-work-play development. This massive 300,000 square-foot business space is built to help meet the demands of Gainesville’s growing tech startup scene while providing housing and entertainment. Located by San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, the facility combines sustainability, modern design, and natural spaces.

The business space was completed in May 2019, and phase 2 will add 252 sustainable single and multi-family homes. Tech City features solar panels, solar roofs, and seven 22-foot solar trees. It also lines the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing along the outside of the building to keep costs down. The site borders the San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, so tenants will enjoy easy access to the area’s natural habitat.

This exciting development is designed to keep talent in Greater Gainesville, and continue to feed the area’s entrepreneurial spirit.

St. Anne Early Learning Center

The St. Anne Early Learning Center opened its doors in February 2019. Designed by Kasper Architects to facilitate early development in children from infants to five year olds, this 16,092 square foot space was a truly unique project. Our team worked closely with the owner and architects to ensure that our goals were aligned from the beginning, and that the completed facility exceeded expectations.

This project involved challenging site work due to the location being on a hill. With our precise grading services, we were able to level the base and install an on-site retention system to mitigate water damage to the property and its neighbors.

The facility is constructed of masonry, structural steel columns/beams, exterior architectural metal panels and stucco, with an interior all glass hallway common to the two wings. The building features 3 outdoor play areas, a warming kitchen, and associated amenities.

StorQuest Self Storage Facility

Scherer Construction has been helping StorQuest with its facility expansion. This year we completed work on a four-story, 900-unit facility on Archer Road. This project was a great example of how businesses can incorporate technology into their space to enhance the customer experience. Our team installed self-service kiosks that allow renters access to their units 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Beyond Gainesville, we have also helped StorQuest build similar facilities in Deltona and Kissimmee, with one underway in Palm Coast. We are also working to renovate two existing facilities, bringing their design up to today’s standards.
